Giant "mouse trap" orchid, Plocoglottis hirta from a limestone outcrop

This is my first time to find the inflorescence of giant "mouse trap" orchid, Plocoglottis hirta from a limestone outcrop near Bau. It is called "mouse-trap" cos the lip of the flower resembles of a mouse trap.

The inflorescence is more than a meter tall!!!

The leaf is very big (compared to other species of mouse-trap orchid) and got short hairs on the surface.

A rheophytic orchid from jungle stream of northern Borneo

Crepidium damusicum is the rheophytic orchid that grows so closed to water edge!!! Amazing! (jungle stream of northern Borneo).

It is growing together with a new species of Aridarum (broad leaf one).

Surveying at Jambusan area of Sarawak

As always, I scout for new location to find beautiful waterfall which is hidden deep inside the jungle. In this trip, I didn't hike too far as it was getting dark. Will go back there again in other day.

A bridge to "secret garden".

The water is a bit turbid & water level is high due to too much rainfall lately.

Searching for Rhinoceros hornbill on rainy day

26 December 2011. It's a wet boxing day....a lot of places in Sarawak are flooded because it rained for more than 24 hours! When the rain stopped for few hours, I went to look for Rhinoceros hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros) in northern Kuching. Every year, the hornbills, monkeys & other animals will come to eat the fruit of a giant fig tree in that jungle. In this trip, my friend & I saw the hornbill but failed to photograph it due to the dense forest canopy. We only managed to photograph the leaf monkeys.

I found this animal skull at the tower....probably it's a dead squirrel eaten by eagle???
