Fishes of Upper Segama river (Sabah) - part 1

Pangasius tubbi, catfish.


Garra borneensis from Ulu Segama of Sabah. The species name "borneensis" means something from Borneo in latin.

Gosh!!! This is a beautiful freshwater fish that I ever seen in Sabah! It is called Luciosoma pellegrini ~ found in a tributary of Segama river.



If you come to Sabah, don't forget to find this predatory fish which named after Sabah; called Hampala sabana. It has longer & slimmer body compared to Hampala from other places in Borneo or outside Borneo.


Borneo sucker fish, Gastromyzon lepidogaster from east coast of Sabah. This is an adult fish. Juvenile has different body pattern.

The metallic grey colored Bucephalandra


Comparison of the metallic grey colored leaf (left) & green leaf (right) of Bucephalandra motleyana. The metallic grey leaf is the reflection from the sunlight from an angle. The green one doesn't reflect much of the sunlight....

Mossy-nest swiftlet (Aerodramus salanganus) from Sabah

Mossy-nest swiftlet (Aerodramus salanganus) which builds the nest on a limestone wall in east Sabah. The nest is no commercial value (for edible bird nest).

Long stem Aridarum is Aridarum montanum!!!

After a century, I'm the first person who re-discovered the "correct" locality for Aridarum montanum (rheophytic aroid).
