Fig tree fruits attract birds & squirrels

It is very rare to meet a Green Broadbill (Calyptomena viridis) in the jungle unless got jungle tree bearing fruits & you will have a chance to see this metallic green jungle bird.

When a fig tree is bearing fruits in the jungle, all the fruit-eating birds will fly to enjoy their meals. This one is brown barbet (Calorhamphus fuliginosus).

Giant squirrel of Borneo (Ratufa affinis cothurnata)

Prevost's squirrel comes to fig tree to search for fruits. This one is a subspecies called Callosciurus revostii borneensis.

Long-tailed parakeet (Psittacula longicauda) from nearby location.

Bulbo. orchid.

A native palm tree.

  1. Hi Michael. I am working on squirrel colouration. Could you clarify where the photos of the Giant Squirrel were taken. It is a very pale form, which is interesting.

  3. Thanks Jungle Mike. It's confusing. Your animal looks more like R. a. ephippium with that narrow dark dorsal stripe than R. a. cothurnata, at least based on Payne et al.'s description. Any thoughts?
